 A recent survey showed that almost 9% of adults claimed to have taken part in some way of remote gambling and online wagering along the past year (from March 2007 to March 2008).
The investigation included 8000 adults and results showed that gambling in the UK is continuously rising.
When analyzing each activity, statistics showed that 6.3% of the people said that they bought National Lottery tickets. When comparing this result to the overall 9%, it showed that about 5% of adults preferred gambling over lottery.
Players use different means through which they bet at online casinos, sportsbooks, poker rooms, etc. The survey showed that 7% of the people use a portable internet device (such as a laptop computer), 2,4% use their mobile phone, and less than 2% use a digital TV interface. As for the age groups, they tend to vary between 18 and 34, and there seems to be a majority of men over women in these games.
The large survey yet to come is one that is going to be held in the year 2010, carried out by the British Gambling Prevalence Study, whose initiation has been recently announced by the UK Gambling Commission. The study will be greatly anticipated by professionals of the industry who seek to estimate the trends to come of the gambling market, in particular the online casino and mobile gambling sectors.
